Some of the winners of the CDC team at NYCDA
 Carver Dance Company participated at the New York City Dance Alliance (NYCDA) Regional Convention and Competition in Dallas, Texas. The dancers competed with private studios and conservatories that are ranked very highly throughout the United States. 
The executive director of NYCDA, Joe Lanteri, stated "why go somewhere where you know you will win versus, go somewhere and be challenged to produce the absolute best. And that is exactly what we did.
With this being said the dancers competed and represented Carver Magnet High School and Aldine ISD with superior ratings: 

Solo Teen Division (ages 13-15)

River -PLATNIUM, OUTSTANING COMMITMENT & ATTACK

Dancers: Paula Garcia, Lauren Martinez, Salma Davilla, Alexia Garza, Ramon Joelle Rosales, Naja Williams, Juliana Menjivar, Bianca Bolanos, and Alexy Quiroga.


The Carver Aldine Dance Company also received the CLASS ACT AWARD, which was awarded to 2 out of 34 studios. This award was developed for a studio that presents their students in a classy fashion. This award was based upon backstage behavior and how the students and directors represent themselves off the stage. 


Two group dances: Tok and Ettouffez La Ventoline were nominated for CRITICS CHOICE which is the top award awarded by competition judges in each age division competition. 

 

Carver Aldine Dance was also able to take multiple dance classes from worldrenowned dance teachers and choreographers that are professors at some of the most prestigious dance colleges in the United States. 


Convention Scholarships received by the students are as follows: 


Regional Convention Scholarship Award

The following Dancers were awarded scholarships that included automatic admittance into the NYCDA Summer Intensive at Pace University in New York. These students were selected because they are "Triple Threat" dancers, meaning they are proficient in Ballet, Jazz and Tap.

Melanie Mays also received a Hip Hop scholarship awarded based upon shining in the Hip Hop convention class. 

 


After participating at NYCDA the dancers also took a master class with professional dancer and choreographer, Yin Yue at BruceWood Professional Dance. Yin Yue is a dance artist that is based out of New York and is here in Texas choreographing for the BruceWood Professional Dance Company. The students were able to take class with current dance professionals and were complimented for their advanced level of training and were asked to return. 

 


We are so proud of the 14 students that represented our school and district the past 5 days. Their accomplishments are remarkable!  Thank you Carver Administration, Faculty, and Staff for your continuous support of the Dance Department.

Also, Special thanks to Ms. Virginia Trotty for traveling to Dallas, Texas just to support our dancers at the Friday night competition.
