CARVER SPEECH & DEBATE: BOOKED & BUSY!

The G.W. Carver Magnet High School Speech & Debate Team, led by Mr. Cobb, had an exciting and productive weekend of competition!
Our students participated in their second CASE Debates competition at the University of Houston. Launched in 2017 by the Harris County Department of Education (HCDE) and Center for Afterschool, Summer and Enrichment (CASE) for Kids, CASE Debates provides high school students across Harris County with greater access to competitive debate opportunities.
The program challenges students to strengthen the Four C’s of 21st-century learning: Critical Thinking, Communication, Collaboration, and Creativity. We are proud of our Carver students for continuing to sharpen their voices, strengthen their arguments, and represent our campus through academic competition.
🏆 And the winning didn’t stop there!
While his teammates competed at UH, Allen Hampton represented Carver at the Elkins Speech & Debate Tournament and walked away with TWO 1st-PLACE FINISHES!
🥇 1st Place — Prose
🥇 1st Place — Program Oral Interpretation (POI)
These victories also earned Allen valuable qualification points toward the Texas Forensic Association (TFA) State Tournament in March.
From debate to interpretation, our students continue to demonstrate that Carver excellence extends beyond the stage and classroom and into competitive academics.
Congratulations to Allen Hampton, Mr. Cobb, and the entire Carver Speech & Debate Team!
