CELEBRATING MARIACHI IN THE CLASSROOM

Mariachi celebrates the musical traditions of Mexico. Incorporating
mariachi music into the classroom helps students learn about a rich musical
heritage that is becoming increasingly popular in the United States. Mariachi
curriculum also provides students with new opportunities to develop a
strong sense of cultural identity and community pride. Mariachi music in the
classroom is a way for our students to continue to develop their life-long
learning skills by participating in a high-quality musical and culturally
diverse experience.

Objectives and Goals for the Aldine ISD Mariachi Ensembles

Our mission in the course of the year is to help the students develop an
appreciation for music as part of general culture. Students will learn basic
and advanced mariachi music performance, expression, reading skills,
and heighten their aural skills.
Mariachi Levels Ensembles:
Non-Varsity Mariachi 1-3 years experience
Varsity Mariachi “Acero” by audition 3-6 years experience

Bio:
Mr. Alanis graduated from the University of Houston obtaining a Bachelor’s of
Music in Education. Mr. Alanis finished his studies from the Moore’s School of
Music in Houston Texas. Mr. Alanis has been teaching for 12 years in Houston
Texas. Furthermore, Mr. Alanis has been an active Mariachi performer for the past
20 years and currently the AISD District Mariachi Director centered in Carver
Magnet High School and Drew Academy. Mr. Alanis is very excited to work with
all Faculty members, especially the wonderful Fine Arts Programs.
