Bio

Mr. Benito Torres Jr. attended the University of St. Thomas – Houston, where he received his Bachelors of Arts – Music – Vocal Performance. He is currently finishing his thesis for his MLA with a dual concentration in music and education at the University of St. Thomas – Houston.

Mr. Torres started his teaching journey in 2020 at Davis High School in Aldine ISD, where he served as the assistant choir director for 3 years. He then served as head director of choirs at Eisenhower High School from 2023-2026. He is happy to now be serving as the director of choirs at Carver High School. In his 7 years of teaching, he has served as clinician for middle school choirs, judged choral festivals and contests, and successfully led students at UIL competitions. He has directed choirs on stages at The Houstons Spiritual Festival, University of St. Thomas, Texas Southern University, The National BMX Races, and City Hall of Houston. 

 
Overview
As we aim to build the Carver High School Choirs each student learns the fundamentals of music theory, singtreading, conducting, and vocal techniques. Students are given opportunities to perform both on campus and off campus. The 2026-2027 school year includes the following groups: 
 
Non-Varsity Tenor Bass Choir
Non-Varsity Treble Choir
The Carver Singers (Touring Group) 
 
Placement into The Carver Singers is audition based. Auditions include intonation accuracy, sightreading capabilities, ability to work in teams, teacher recommendations, and leadership skills. 
 
2026-2027 Expectations
Each student in the Carver High School choral program is required to participate in mandatory concerts and district solo and ensemble. Select students will compete in All-State Choir auditions, UIL Concert and Sightreading 2027,  All-State Solo and Ensemble, and community events.
