Bridging the gap between education and industry.
Carver P-TECH students learn Interior Design concepts and develop technical skills through real-world projects involving fundamentals of interior design, technical drawing for interior designers, basic elements of design, textiles for interior design; materials, methods, and estimating; professional practices for interior design.
The program’s industry partner, American Society of Interior Design, International Interior Design Association; NEWH- The Hospitality Design Network, and The National Kitchen and Bath Association desires to further prepare students for today’s workforce by helping them earn valuable state licensing requirements through the National Council of Interior Design Qualification exam and licensing through The Texas Board of Architectural Examiners. The partner also offers internships and first-priority interviewing to qualified P-TECH students.
Postsecondary Credentials
Through a partnership with Houston Community College, P-TECH students have the unique opportunity to earn up to level-1 certification.
Interior Design Futures
Interior design and architectural design jobs in Houston are projected to increase. The median annual wage for these occupations in Houston is $43,584, according to CareerOneStop.org. P-TECH students are prepared to either enter the workforce right after high school or continue their postsecondary education at a 4-year college. Houston Community College and Stephen F. Austin State University have a partnership to offer a 4 years bachelors degree for Houston area graduates. Graduates can live in Houston and earn their degree without needing to move out of the city.
To become an interior designer you’ll need specific coursework such as basic interior design skills, computer drawing, rendering knowledge, and computer-aided drafting (CAD) along with a bachelor’s degree in almost any field. To gain additional training and knowledge, there are many 4-year interior design programs available. There are also specific Texas state licensing requirements for interior designers depending on the state.
Carver P-TECH Schools interior design curriculum provides an opportunity to earn a level-1 certification. There is balance of technical, creative, and business training necessary for a career in the interior design profession.
